Description of Castle Croft
Only a five minute walk down the hill to the golden sandy beach at Praa Sands, this charming single-storey detached granite barn, converted from the old stables is set in the grounds of the former mediaeval great hall of Pengersick Castle nearby, now a private dwelling with the gardens and keep open to the public in the summer. Entered through a gated driveway shared with the owner, the gravel drive leads up to a parking area to one side of the property.
The front door opens into a small hallway and from there into a pleasant living room retaining many of the original Dovecots as features with stained wooden floorboards, beams rising up to the apex of the roof and limewashed natural stone walls. There is a smart fitted kitchen area in one corner with a slate tiled floor and cherry pine units, a rustic dining suite and a comfortable leather corner settee facing the wood burning stove.
Leading off the hallway are a bathroom W.C. with hand basin and electric shower over the bath and two carpeted bedrooms with open ceilings and pine bedroom furniture. The master bedroom has a double bed with white painted stone walls and wooden hinged shutters on the window, and the second bedroom has a triple sleeper which comprises a double bed below and single bunk bed on top with integral access ladder and sprung mattresses.
There is a large level lawn adjacent to the property for the exclusive use of the visitors with a patio area in one corner and a shallow stream running along one boundary wall and a garage houses the laundry facilities. The pub, which offers good food, surf hire shop, beach cafe and family beach with safe bathing are all approx 1/2 a mile away and there is a village store/P.O. just a minutes walk.
Praa Sands has a 9 hole golf course, there are wonderful local walks taking in the NT headlands, and the beaches at Prussia Cove and Kenneggy Sands are within easy reach. Helston, and St Michael's Mount, are just over 6 miles, the picturesque harbour at Porthleven is under 5 miles, and St Ives is within a 30 minute drive.
